• The many faces that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is presenting today, including Post-covid and Post-vac syndromes
• A new unitary model for the several types of CFS currently seen; their commonality and differences
• Treating the five basic Chinese medicine patterns involved in CFS, and their functional pathology
• The two types of onset of CFS: frank acute onset and gradual onset with latent heat or empty heat
• The benefits of combining the two lenses of Chinese medicine patterns and functional medicine for these immune-deficiency disorders
• Treatment using single herbs, formulas (including new formulas) and essential oils; terrain versus branch treatment
• Unraveling the tangle of causes and pathogenesis in the case-history for longterm curative results
• Techniques to prevent patient relapse at any stage of CFS
Although Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) has long been a recognized as an immune-deficiency disorder, in the current post-pandemic era it has re-emerged as a hydra with many faces. Long-covid, post-covid and post-vaccination syndromes are actually new variants of CFS commonly seen today. Once the common symptoms of CFS – exhaustion, brainfog and depression – are understood, the post-pandemic variants and their underlying pathology can more easily be diagnosed and treated.
To achieve truly effective results in every type of CFS, and to prevent future relapse, it should be evaluated and treated using a systemic approach that combines Chinese medicine with functional medicine.
Because CFS is a true modern syndrome, not a disorder, the key to effective treatment is accurate diagnosis of the patent's patterns and pathology. Recognizing their development in the case-history is crucial for improvement. Every CFS patient is unique, and treatment should be highly individualized to match the causes, pathogenesis and presentation.
Herbs in tincture or granule form, and essential oils in various applications, are powerful tools at any stage of treatment. They include remedies that boost Wei immune functions, such as immunostimulant, antioxidant, adaptogenic and NK-cell stimulant, as well as herbs and nutrients that treat the various co-existing patterns seen, including postnatal Blood and Jing deficiency, damp toxins, Kidney Jing deficiency, empty heat and latent heat
This information-packed seminar will present the essential, practical information needed to start using herbs and essential oils for CFS safely and effectively.
What makes essential oils particularly valuable for treating immune dysfunctions?
• Their ability to treat infections directly and boost immune Wei and Ying functions as well.
• They can be used with several different delivery methods, topical and internal (including on points), making treatment highly effective.
• They can quickly go to the root of emotional and stress-related disorders that disrupt immunity.
• Because they cross the blood-brain barrier, essential oils are highly neuroactive and able to quickly modulate immune peptides along the gut-brain axis.
"I enjoyed the breakdown of immune disorders into their Oriental Medicine patterns. I also enjoyed the comparison between herbal formulas and essential oils, and the treatment integration between them. This seminar presented a good starting baseline of information that built up into more detailed Oriental Medicine concepts."
– Michael Mark LAc
"The functional medicine framework of the Immunity seminar was very helpful. I liked the incorporation of Western herbal medicine concepts, and it was nice to have samples of the oils to work with."
– Nicole Hohmann LAc
"In his seminar on treating immune disorders, I was impressed by Peter's thorough integration of the physiology and neuroendocrinology of the immune system with traditional Chinese medical assessment, and treatment with herbal and essential oil agents. His reference works are comprehensive, well-organized and clinically valuable texts."
– Richard Kitaeff MA, ND, DipAc, LAc
"The Treatment of Immune Disorders workshop was fantastic and I look forward to integrating Peter's truly comprehensive approach into my practice. His depth of knowledge is phenomenal, his presentation is amazingly organized and methodical, and he explains the mechanisms of physiology with great clarity and ease. His course handout is chock full of information that's as well organized and thoughtful as his books. Peter is on the top of my list of great teachers of our time. Thank you Peter for sharing your time, effort and passion."
– Jeanmarie Kuster, L.Ac., R.N., Douglaston, NY
"I loved Peter's class on immune dysfunction. The wealth of scientific information he provided clearly explained Western medical conditions that I had never understood, and I now feel much more confident in my ability to recognize and address these conditions. I have begun implementing my newfound knowledge with patients and with my family, and I look forward to integrating the teachings over the next weeks and months."
– Jenny Wood, L.Ac., C.H., Cape Cod, MA
"Dr. Holmes' seminar on immune dysfunctions is invaluable if you are seeing chronic, complex cases such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, cancer, allergies, etc. Although much of what he discusses isn't learned in standard Chinese Medicine, the information is relevant to probably 90% of my patients. It is the missing link to being able to more readily diagnose and successfully treat these modern disease processes. Dr. Holmes offers a wealth of information and clinical expertise through an integrative blend of classical Chinese Medicine and functional medicine. We are lucky to have him raise the bar of our medicine, and our patients in turn are lucky to benefit."
– Elizabeth Fine, L.Ac., Los Angeles, CA
